What Job Would Suit You Best?

Did you know there is a wide range of jobs available for home care workers? People who do these jobs help seniors stay in their homes or communities to age with grace, dignity and respect. Home care workers help with essential daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, toilet care and transfers/mobility.

We’ve compiled a summary[i] of the primary jobs available for home care workers so you can evaluate what might suit you best. Consider:

  • Direct Care Workers assist older adults and people with disabilities with daily tasks and activities in various settings such as hospitals, homes and long-term care facilities. Direct care workers are formally classified as personal care aides, home health aides and nursing assistants. Still, their specific job titles vary according to their work and the populations they serve.
  • Direct Support Professionals assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across various settings.
  • Home Care Workers can refer to many types of direct care workers— primarily personal care aides and home health aides—who assist individuals in their own homes.
  • Home Health Aide assists individuals with daily living tasks at home and may also perform specific clinical duties under the supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Independent Provider is a direct care worker employed directly by consumers through publicly funded consumer-direction programs or private-pay arrangements.
  • Nursing Assistant is a direct care worker who assists with daily living activities and completes specific clinical tasks for individuals living in skilled nursing homes.
  • Personal Care Aide is a direct care worker who assists individuals with daily living activities in their homes and communities and may also support individuals with employment and other forms of community engagement.
  • Residential Care Aide is a direct care worker who assists individuals living in adult family homes, assisted living communities and other community-based residential care settings.
