What is a Cross Country HealthCare Internship?

At Cross Country HealthCare an internship is a learning experience specifically designed to allow the student to explore a career field and gain work-related skills under supervision in a professional environment.

Internships are created in a variety of ways. Some students are eligible to receive academic credit for their internship experience. Others are based on a variety of factors, including their academic major, class standing, and GPA. In addition, some internships are paid, and some internships are unpaid.

How does an internship at Cross Country HealthCare affect your future?

  • Great advantages
  • Get a head start into your field
  • Avoid underemployment

Underemployment is a concern for many graduates that are being employed but in a field that does not make use of the students' potential. For this reason, many career-oriented, ambitious students choose to complete an internship. The internship gives students a competitive edge! Students gain the experience needed to break into a specific field. Many employers will hire only experienced people. Participating in our internship program is one way to gain the skills required by potential employers.

When should I intern?

Anytime! Students complete internships at Cross Country HealthCare over the summer, during the fall and spring semesters. During the summer, students can work either part-time or full-time hours. In the academic year, most students work 10-15 hours per week.

What else can an internship do for you?

Make contacts for your future. The people you meet during your internship with Cross Country HealthCare are potential networking contacts. These people can introduce you to others in your field that may have opportunities that are just right for you. Your supervisor in the internship assignment can be a great college or professional reference for future opportunities.

Lead to a higher salary. When you take the time to complete an internship with Cross Country HealthCare, you gain valuable experience.

This experience can justify asking a future employer for a higher rate of pay than if you were applying for the job with no experience. You can show your future employer that you have gained specific skills during your internship and may not require detailed training as somebody who has not completed an internship would.

May turn into a job - Some of our managers use the internship as a way to evaluate potential new employees. You can never assume that an internship will turn into a job; however, many of our interns are now fulltime employees.
